Eating out…
Twice a month you can order excellent Canto inspired baked goods from Hai Lin Leung, at the Lucky Yu Bakery in Walthamstow. We had this delicious pillowy bun above, filled generously with custard and red bean, some divine spring onion focaccia and a gingery, squidgy mini leen go. Pastry chef / doctor - she’s amazing!!
Took ages to get ourselves here, but we finally got to try @shofoodoh Hiroshima style okonomiyaki at Pretty Decent Beer Co in Forest Gate. They do an excellent pint and okonomiyaki deal for a mere fourteen pounds! Really very good. 340 Sheridan Road E7 9EF.
Just as the warm weather rolls in you have another opportunity to try these combos from Happy Endings x Celestial Peach. Refreshing soft serves of lime sorbet and pandan jasmine rice tres leches meet punchy flavours and textures in the form of chilli crisp, basil oil and our favourite - nasi lemak style with crispy anchovy and peanut! We believe they’re repeating the event this Saturday 11th May at Arch 437 Burdett Rd, London E3 4JS. Well worth it!!
Eating in…
Karla Zazueta’s book Norteña came out last month and we made this Mexican flan recipe which was very easy and had the most perfect texture! The book is full of flavourful recipes - we’ve also made the lamb barbacoa and pozole - both worked wonderfully! Learn more recipes from Northern Mexico and buy it here.
Sambal Shiok laksa paste jars were a lifesaver during the pandemic and to be honest they’re are a storecupboard staple whenever we can get our hands on some! Luckily enough, Mandy is doing a drop of these with Delli on Friday 17th May. It’s so quick to make up for dinner - just add coconut milk/stock and whichever noodles and toppings you fancy. Shrimp and vegan available so set a reminder!
We still have signed copies of the RANGOON SISTERS COOKBOOK to buy online and we donate seven pounds to Medical Action Myanmar for every one sold. A great gift! Buy here.
Have a good day!
Love
Emily and Amy xxx
